Inauguration of the Quick Impact Project “ Expanding Traditional Heritage Opportunities for Women Pattern Setters (Chorabab) in Khsach Kandal District” with Ministry of Women’s Affairs of Cambodia (08 May 2025)

The Embassy of India, in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Women’s Affairs, launched a new Quick Impact Project (QIP) titled “Expanding Traditional Heritage Opportunities for Women Pattern Setters (Chorabab) in Khsach Kandal District” on 8 May 2025. The launch ceremony was co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs, and Ambassador Vanlalvawna Bawitlung. Supported by the Government of India under the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) framework, the project aims to empower around 100 women weavers by enhancing their skills in the traditional Cambodian weaving art of Chorabab. The initiative will provide training, tools, and access to digital and ICT resources to help these women improve product quality, increase income, and strengthen their roles as entrepreneurs. Ambassador Bawitlung emphasized the shared commitment of India and Cambodia to gender equality, cultural preservation, and inclusive economic growth. He highlighted that this project not only uplifts local livelihoods but also helps safeguard Cambodia’s rich textile heritage.
