MGCATT Museum becomes member of ASEMUS

Set up in 2000, the Asia-Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) is a cross-cultural network of museums from Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) countries.  ASEMUS’s objectives are to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of Asia and Europe through collaborative museum-based cultural activity and stimulate & facilitate sharing and use of museum collections.

ASEMUS is led by the ASEMUS Executive Committee and supported by the ASEMUS Secretariat. The Chairman of ASEF Board of Governors is the Patron of ASEMUS.

The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is an informal process of dialogue and co-operation with the objective of strengthening relationship between Asia and Europe. The ASEM members are: Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lao PDR, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mongolia, Myanmar, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, Vietnam, European Union and the ASEAN Secretariat.

Mekong-Ganga Cooperation Asian Traditional Textiles Museum  (MGCATTM)

The Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC) is an initiative by six countries – Cambodia, India, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam launched in 2000 at Vientiane, Lao PDR, for cooperation in tourism, culture, education, as well as transport and communications.   During her visit in September 2010, Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil former President of India, laid the foundation stone for MGC Asian Traditional Textiles Museum, at Siem Reap (website : http://www.mgcattmuseum.com/  )   Soft opening of the Museum was held on April 7, 2014 in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, Dr. Sok An and Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, India Mr. Anil Wadhwa.

MGCATTM, the first museum of its kind in Cambodia has exhibits on textiles from the Mekong Ganga region along with interactive facilities.  It also has a training centre and workshop in textiles; a fashion design and development centre using traditional ethnic designs; and various children activities in the centre.  It also helps preserve the ageold tradition of textiles in this region.  This museum is yet another attraction for the large number of tourists coming to Siem Reap.
